Mold remediation

When there is visible mold, remediation is essential.

Mold is all around us, and in small amounts we can live with it. But after a natural disaster or water intrusion, building interiors can become magnets for exponential mold growth, which can lead to serious health problems for some people.

After water damage, our preferred method is to properly clean and dry surfaces and materials to prevent mold growth. If that is not possible, our mold remediation teams recommend removal based on the size and scope of the contamination, and may bring in a Certified Industrial Hygienist for consulting and testing.

While few laws govern how mold remediation must be done, we follow guidelines for the safe removal and disposal of mold-contaminated items published by the IICRC (Institute for Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification), the EPA and state requirements.

How we respond

How mold remediation works.

  1. Inspection

We assess the affected areas and, when needed, bring in a Certified Industrial Hygienist.

  2. Containment

Work areas are isolated so contamination does not spread to the rest of the property.

  3. Cleaning and removal

Contaminated materials are cleaned or removed following IICRC, EPA and state guidelines.

  4. Dry and rebuild

The area is dried completely, and we can rebuild what was removed.

Frequently asked questions

Contact Sigma
Is mold dangerous?

Mold can affect indoor air quality and damage materials, and some people are more sensitive to it than others. If you suspect mold, avoid disturbing it and call a professional.

Can I just clean mold myself?

Small, surface-level spots may be cleaned, but widespread mold or mold caused by hidden moisture needs a professional. If the moisture source is not fixed, mold comes back.

Which guidelines does Sigma follow?

Cleaning, drying and removal follow IICRC, EPA and state guidelines, and a Certified Industrial Hygienist can be involved when needed.

How do you keep mold from coming back?

By finding and fixing the moisture source and drying the area completely before anything is rebuilt.

Do you rebuild after the remediation?

Yes. We can carry your project from remediation through reconstruction, so you work with one team.
